About Olivet University

Biblical Higher Education

Olivet University is a private Christian institution devoted to preparing students for lives of leadership, ministry, and service. With a foundation deeply rooted in Scripture, Olivet combines faith, academic excellence, and practical experience to cultivate servant-leaders who are equipped to make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.

Origins and Founding Vision

The university began in 2000 as the Olivet Theological College & Seminary (OTCS). It was founded to train men and women for global missions, with a focus on theological education and spiritual development. Through its programs, OTCS provided accessible learning opportunities to ministry-minded students worldwide, utilizing both traditional and distance education methods. Its mission was simple yet profound: to empower believers with the knowledge and spiritual strength needed to share the gospel and serve others.

As OTCS grew, so did its vision. Under the guidance of the late Dr. Ralph D. Winter, a respected missionary strategist and theologian, the seminary evolved into Olivet University in 2004. This transformation expanded the institution’s focus beyond theology, creating a Christian university dedicated to integrating faith and learning comprehensively and holistically. Dr. Winter envisioned Olivet as a “sanctuary of truth,” where education would nurture both intellectual growth and spiritual formation.

A Campus Rooted in Purpose

Olivet University’s main campus is situated in the peaceful Anza Valley of California, offering an environment that fosters reflection, study, and spiritual growth through worship. Surrounded by nature, students find a space that allows them to grow closer to God while developing academically and personally. The university has also extended its reach across the United States, with campuses in major cities such as Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, St. Louis, Orlando, Nashville, and Washington, D.C. This network of campuses allows Olivet to connect with diverse communities while offering students flexible opportunities to pursue their education.

At Olivet, learning is more than acquiring knowledge; it’s about developing wisdom and character. The university offers programs designed to prepare students for various fields while emphasizing Christian ethics and service. Faculty members are committed to guiding students in their academic pursuits and spiritual journeys, ensuring that education at Olivet remains both practical and faith-driven.

Faith and Service at the Heart of Learning

Spiritual life is at the heart of the Olivet University experience. Students participate in weekly chapel services, small group Bible studies, and prayer gatherings that help strengthen their faith and sense of community. These practices encourage students to live out their beliefs and build lasting relationships centered on Christ.

Service is also a defining element of Olivet’s culture. The university believes that education is most meaningful when it inspires students to take action. Students volunteer in local outreach projects, assist in community programs, and participate in mission activities that serve those in need. From organizing food drives and charity events to partnering with local churches, Olivet students learn that leadership begins with compassion and humility. These hands-on experiences reinforce the university’s mission to develop servant-leaders who live their faith through service.

Mentorship, Growth, and Community

Olivet University fosters a strong sense of community among students, faculty, and staff. Professors serve not only as teachers but as mentors who help students connect their academic goals with their spiritual callings. The university’s small class sizes enable personal interaction, fostering an atmosphere where learning is collaborative and meaningful.

Visiting pastors, guest speakers, and alumni frequently contribute to campus life by sharing insights from their ministries and professional experiences. These interactions help students see how biblical principles apply to real-world leadership, communication, and problem-solving. Many alumni return to support current students, continuing the tradition of mentorship and discipleship at Olivet.

Continuing the Mission

Olivet University remains faithful to its founding mission: to integrate biblical faith with education and equip graduates to serve the world for God’s glory. Over the years, Olivet has celebrated numerous milestones, including its twentieth anniversary in 2024, a testament to its steady growth and enduring impact. Graduates now serve globally as pastors, educators, missionaries, nonprofit leaders, and professionals in various industries, carrying the values of faith, wisdom, and service into their work.
